Day 21: Why Are Essential Oils So Expensive?

What About Lemon Essential Oil?

Lemon essential oil is easier to produce than rose oil, but it still requires a significant amount of plant material.

Approximately:šŸ‹ 50–75 lemons are needed to produce a 15ml bottle of lemon essential oil.

Next time when you open a bottle of lemon essential oil, imagine this:

Inside that small bottle is the aromatic energy and essence of dozens of lemons.

Why Is There So Little Essential Oil in a Plant?

The simple reason is that most plants naturally contain only a very small amount of essential oil.

For many plants:

🌿 The essential oil content is less than 1%.

Some plants contain only:🌿 0.1% or even less.

This means a large quantity of plant material is required before even a small amount of essential oil can be obtained.

What Is Distillation?

The most common extraction method is called:

šŸ’§ Steam Distillation

In simple terms:

1.Plant material is placed into a distillation chamber.

2.Steam passes through the plant material.

3.The steam carries the aromatic compounds with it.

4.The vapor is cooled and condensed back into liquid.

5.The liquid separates into:

  1. 🌿 Essential Oil

  2. šŸ’§ Hydrosol (Floral Water)

This is how most essential oils are produced.

Why Do Essential Oils Feel So Powerful?

Because they are highly concentrated.

What you smell is not just a pleasant fragrance.

You are experiencing aromatic compounds that plants have developed over millions of years as part of their survival strategy.

Every aroma reflects a unique plant personality.

For example:

🌹 Rose – Gentle and nurturing

🌲 Cedarwood – Grounding and stable

šŸ‹ Lemon – Bright and uplifting

🌿 Peppermint – Refreshing and awakening

🌳 Frankincense – Deep, calm, and contemplative

That is why I often say:

When we smell an essential oil, we are also getting to know the personality of the plant.

Today’s Most Important Thought

Many people believe they are simply using an essential oil.

In reality, we are borrowing the wisdom that plants have developed through decades, centuries, and even thousands of years of evolution.

Behind every drop of essential oil are:

ā˜€ļø Sunlight

šŸŒ§ļø Rain

🌱 Soil

ā³ Time

ā¤ļø Life itself

Learning aromatherapy is not merely learning about a bottle of oil.

It is learning how plants have learned to live in harmony with nature.

And perhaps that wisdom is exactly what modern people need most today.

🌿 Reflection for Today

Take an essential oil that you have nearby.

Close your eyes and smell it quietly for 30 seconds.

Then ask yourself:

šŸ‘‰ What does this aroma remind me of?

šŸ‘‰ How does it make me feel?

šŸ‘‰ If this essential oil were a person, what kind of personality would it have?

Take a moment to listen to what the plant may be teaching you. 🌿✨
